The Wonders of the Altar (Part 4) – Living Altars and Divine Encounters
Then he cried out against the altar by the word of the Lord, and said, “O altar, altar! Thus says the Lord: ‘Behold, a child, Josiah by name, shall be born to the house of David; and on you he shall sacrifice the priests of the high places who burn incense on you, and men’s bones shall be burned on you.’”. – 1 Kings 13:2
Today, we will conclude this series on the powers and the wonders of a God-endorsed altar. We will continue to highlight the experiences of individuals in the Bible who had supernatural encounters at the altar.
Solomon did what no one else had ever done before by offering a thousand burnt offerings at the altar in Gibeon. That night, God appeared to him in a dream and blessed him with the kind of endowment that no one else had before or after him (1 Kings 3:3-15).
Zacharias, a priest, had a supernatural encounter while performing his priestly duties at the altar of incense in the temple. Angel Gabriel appeared to him and announced the forthcoming birth of his son, John the Baptist, who would prepare the way for the Lord (Luke 1:5-23).
Apostle Paul, while praying at the temple in Jerusalem, saw a vision of Jesus. In the vision, he got a divine instruction to leave Jerusalem because the people would not accept his message (Acts 22:17-21).
Imagine the time and energy Paul could have wasted trying to preach to the Jews if he hadn’t received this instruction. But by being in a place of devotion, God helped him to re-adjust his sail, and this marked the start of his phenomenal ministry to the Gentiles.
These encounters demonstrated that the altar is not merely a stone monument or a wooden structure in the fabric of religion. Rather, it is a very powerful and useful resource for any believer who gets it right. And while it is no longer confined to stone or wood items, a Christian can be a walking altar with its customary powers in manifestation.
This is because a genuine follower of Christ is a living altar of God [1 Corinthians 6:19].
