Here is the second instalment of our meditation on the Psalm 1 business executive in contemporary terms.

Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, Nor stands in the path of sinners, nor sits in the seat of the scornful; But his delight is in the law of the Lord, And in His law he meditates day and night. He shall be like a tree Planted by the rivers of water, That brings forth its fruit in its season, Whose leaf also shall not wither; And whatever he does shall prosper.Psalm 1:1-3

The passage also says the blessed man does not stand in the path of sinners. That is to say, he does not follow the path that sinners take and does not indulge in habits that sinners enjoy. A Psalm 1 businessperson does not get involved in a business that is common among sinners; he/she avoids any business whose operations thrive on sinful practices or whose survival and profitability can only be guaranteed on the altar of sin or compromises.

A Psalm 1 businessperson avoids going into such businesses, no matter how lucrative it is or how popular it may be in his environment. Because a Psalm 1 businessperson fears God, he/she eschews sins and business practices that may irk God. His/her consciousness of God guides him/her in making critical decisions and everyday choices that affect life, career, business, and other social relationships in alignment with the counsel of God. A Psalm 1 businessperson will cringe at the thought of displeasing God through the calls he/she makes and would not feel comfortable pursuing a business cause that God will not approve of. They are that conscious of God.

A Psalm 1 businessperson does not stand in the path of sinners, so he/she avoids a business line that sinners love to practice, neither does he/she make or market products that promote sin and rankle against the will of God.
