The Offering that God Accepts
Knowing that you were not redeemed with corruptible things, like silver or gold, from your aimless conduct received by tradition from your fathers, but with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot. – 1 Peter 1:18-19
Unlike the Bible days when men offered sacrifices to God from the produce of their farms or livestock, such practice is uncommon today. Our medium of exchange or legal tender has largely shifted from commodities to monetary items. Therefore, what we might be offering God in the olden days as farm produce or animals has now become money and other forms of value.
Meanwhile, it is important to note that unlike the early days where the items of sacrifice were tangibles and could be easily appraised, the objects of our own worship these days may not so easily lend themselves to an empirical appraisal, as they could be intangible items. Therefore, offering to God is more delicate nowadays, where we do not offer tangibles.
The objects of our offering now include our time, our attention, our efforts, our money, our priorities, and others. These are the sacrifices we mostly offer to God today. The big question is, what is the quality of the resources you present to God? Is the quality of your offering premium or questionable?
In many instances across the Bible, God expressly stated the kind of offering He expected to be presented to Him, such sacrifice must be without blemish. In other words, it must be of the highest quality to be acceptable to Him. Therefore, whether you are offering money, time, effort, service, worship, evangelism, prayer, helping others, and so forth, such must be done with a consciousness of giving the best to God (Colossians 3:23).
