The Benefits of Wisdom: Understanding, A Companion of Wisdom
When wisdom enters your heart, and knowledge is pleasant to your soul, Discretion will preserve you; Understanding will keep you. – Proverbs 2:10
Today, we consider understanding the third companion of wisdom and the benefits it endows to whoever possesses it. Unlike the other terms we have considered, understanding is not so easy to define without recourse to its root word. The Oxford Dictionary defines it as ‘the ability to understand something.’
Understanding speaks to the power of insights, comprehension, and the ability to make sense of abstract concepts or grasp common phenomena beyond the average level. Understanding is closely associated with wisdom, and it has its own benefits, some of which we shall meditate on today.
Understanding aids in better decision-making. Having a deep understanding of something helps you to make smarter choices in that field. This is because it places you on a pedestal and helps you to respond to life with insight rather than just reacting. Understanding also helps you to develop empathy, which in turn helps you build connections. It helps you to see things from the perspective of others, with the advantage of changing the dynamic of interpersonal relationships in your favor.
Understanding makes you less fearful. A great deal of fear comes from the unknown. Understanding, on the other hand, turns mystery into clarity, thus making the hitherto unknown more manageable.
Understanding also enhances communication because when you truly understand something, you are able to explain it simply and more authoritatively. That goes a long way in enhancing relationships, careers, and other areas of life.
Understanding can also make you a great problem-solver. This is because the deeper your understanding, the better your ability to solve problems creatively and effectively.
Lastly, understanding boosts your confidence level, not necessarily in a loud, cocky manner, but in a calm and assured way. The kind of confidence that comes from knowing what you are doing and why.
These are some of the benefits that a wisdom-associated understanding endows on anyone who has it. Sure, you want those too.
You Will Succeed in Jesus Name!
