The Benefits of Wisdom: Tree of Life

Happy is the man who finds wisdom, and the man who gains understanding… She is a tree of life to those who take hold of her, and happy are all who retain her. – Proverbs 3:13,18

In continuation of our meditation on the benefits of wisdom, today we shall consider the tree of life benefit that wisdom offers. Our reference passage says wisdom is a tree of life to those who have it. Now that is something.

The tree of life means different things to different people, races, beliefs, and so forth. In the context of our meditation, it symbolizes growth and renewal. As a symbol of growth, we can picture a good tree bearing healthy fruits, shooting out strong branches, deepening its roots, having solid stems, and rising as high as it could get. These are applicable to any well-planted tree; a tree of life has more going for it than an average tree.

This means that whoever has wisdom also has the potential to grow strong roots and reach the heights of their potential, as the tree of life is likely to grow and develop. In contemporary terms, this means that wisdom offers an advantage of personal growth and development to those who have it.

In terms of wisdom’s renewal ability, just as trees lose their leaves and regrow them, symbolizing the cycles of life, death, and rebirth, so does wisdom offer the advantage of reinvention to whoever has it. Wisdom keeps its possessor evergreen by availing them the mental and emotional resources to stay young and fresh, with the facility to reinvent themselves when necessary. That way, they cannot become stale.

You will succeed in Jesus’ Name!
