The Benefits of Wisdom: Safeguard from Evil

When wisdom enters your heart… to deliver you from the way of evil. – Proverbs 2:10-12

The benefit of wisdom we shall consider today is its safeguard abilities. Wisdom has the capacity to shield someone who possesses it from evil and calamity. It is arguably the best safeguard around to keep one from falling and failing. From the passage above, the Bible says wisdom in the heart will deliver its possessor from the way of evil.

The earth is a beautiful place to be. It houses arguably some of the greatest treasures of the universe. Humans are also the best of God’s creatures, at least as far we can tell from our limited knowledge of His creations and this hemisphere. However, inasmuch as there is vast beauty on earth and much loveliness in the people and other creatures on it, the truth remains there are also evils in great proportion on this earth, both in people and places without an exception of race or location.

From ancient times, after the initial fall of humanity, evil has been gaining ground on the earth, in the hearts of humans, to the scandalization of God Himself. Even when He tried to redress this through a cleanout during the flood of Noah, those that proliferated the earth after that reset only appeared to outdo their forbears in vileness. So, it seems both good and evil will continue cohabiting until Judgment, when the righteous will be separated from the vile.

However, to navigate the dilemma of contending with good and evil in everyday life, our reference passage today gives us an insight into how to foolproof ourselves from malevolence—wisdom. While evil remains an inevitability on earth, wisdom is a safeguard that can either keep one from becoming evil or falling prey to its danger.

This makes wisdom an essential asset for anyone who wants to navigate the journey of life, destiny, career, business, and other callings with success and minimal bruises.
