The Benefits of Wisdom: Freedom and Surefootedness

I have taught you in the way of wisdom; I have led you in right paths. When you walk, your steps will not be hindered, and when you run, you will not stumble. – Proverbs 4:11-12

Another benefit of wisdom, as seen in our reference scripture today, is unfettered freedom and surefootedness. These are very important benefits for anyone to have.

The Bible says the way of wisdom, or the right paths, facilitates progress or advancement such that the steps of the wise one will not be hindered while walking. That is freedom.

It takes someone who has had to contend with restrictions of any form, mental, psychological, physical, emotional, social or others, to appreciate the value of free walking and unfettered liberty. In a world full of vicissitudes, many things attempt to trip our steps from making progress, just as they break our momentum and undercut our traction. Therefore, to operate or run without these restrictions is freedom, the kind that only wisdom can offer. Hence, the Bible points this out to our attention.

The other part of that scripture is similar to the first, with a promise of running without stumbling, in other words, surefootedness. The Bible helps to see that this is also an advantage that comes from wisdom. We all can do with some runs, and running has its inherent risks, one of which is falling or stumbling. The Bible thus helps us to see that with wisdom, a run will be de-risked entirely or reduced considerably when undertaken by a wise person or done with wisdom.

Surely, that is a good way to run.

You will succeed in Jesus Name!
