The Benefits of Wisdom: Felicity – Right Answers
When the queen of Sheba heard how wonderfully the Lord had blessed Solomon with wisdom, she decided to test him with some hard questions. She arrived in Jerusalem with a long train of camels carrying spices, gold, and jewels; and she told him all her problems. Solomon answered all her questions; nothing was too difficult for him, for the Lord gave him the right answers every time. – Kings 10:1-3 (Living Bible)
We are back to our meditation on the benefits of wisdom. The advantage we are considering today is felicity or the right answers in common parlance.
Wisdom affords its possessors the gift of insight and understanding such that they can accurately analyze matters and proffer the right solutions where necessary. We can see how this played out in the encounter between Solomon and the Queen of Sheba who traveled thousands of kilometers to seek an audience with Solomon and to sample his famed wisdom.
From what we read in the Bible; Queen Sheba was a woman of no small means herself. Apart from being a female monarch in a largely patriarchal era, she ruled over a great kingdom. The way she came to Jerusalem, plus the retinue and wealth she brought with her, underscored her eminence and influence in the world at that time.
As a ruler of a vast kingdom, she equally had myriads of challenges overseeing the everyday affairs of her kingdom. So she also came to Solomon with complex matters of statesmanship and affairs of leadership that she had not been able to find a solution to. The Bible records that Solomon answered all her questions and there was no question too difficult or an issue too knotty that he did not provide the right answer to. As simple as that may sound, it was a profound feat that only wisdom can afford.
Wisdom affords those who possess it the right answer, appropriate counsel and spot-on direction in the matters of life. Everyone can do with these; everyone can do with wisdom.
