Discernment
He did it in order to place the matter before you in a different light. But you are as wise as an angel of God, and you know everything that happens! – 2 Samuel 14:20 (Living Bible)
As we continue our meditation on the multifold benefits of wisdom, today we will focus on discernment as one of such advantages. Wisdom makes one discerning as to have accurate assessment of character or situations and make sound judgment on them.
Our reference passage captures a conversation between David and a woman who came to him with a cooked up case to judge with the mind of using David’s own verdict to convict him. However, because David was wise, even though he did not know the woman or what her intention really was, he probed her further concerning the matter to the point that when the woman had nowhere to hide, she gave up herself and opened to David, while also acknowledging his farseeing wisdom.
In a world that is full of vicissitudes, it takes discernment to navigate the various turns of life with little falls and hiccups. Wisdom makes its possessor discerning as to evaluate matters objectively, ask the right questions, analyze with accuracy, and decide with precision. These are very essential for success in anything.
No matter our status or calling, we can all do with discernment as it will help us to recognize genuine people around us and not be led astray by the antics of deceivers. And while discernment is an essential for everyone, people in positions of leadership particularly need it to guide them in efficiently managing the people and resources under their charge.
Bad policies and misrule at any level are indications of a lack of wisdom on the part of leadership. Wise leaders do not make decisions that will harm the people they are leading or endanger their lives and wellbeing in any way, because they are discerning enough to know the likely consequences of whatever decision they take. Wisdom gives discernment, and discernment facilitates accuracy.
You Will Succeed in Jesus Name!
