The Benefits of Wisdom: Deliverance from Seduction and Sexual Immorality

When wisdom enters your heart, and knowledge is pleasant to your soul… to deliver you from the immoral woman, from the seductress who flatters with her words, Who forsakes the companion of her youth, And forgets the covenant of her God. – Proverbs 2:10,16-17

The benefit of wisdom for our meditation today is its ability to deliver one from falling prey to seduction as well as immorality. Our reference passage details another safeguard that wisdom offers those who have it, as it prevents them from succumbing to the subtlety of flattery, seduction, and ultimately sexual sins, be that fornication or adultery.

The fact that the Bible highlights these as things wisdom can prevent one from means that those who have succumbed to it or who are indulging in it are not wise. It thus means that sexual sins of any type are a betrayal of a lack of wisdom on the part of those involved in them. Otherwise, they would have steered clear in the first place.

Firstly, the passage highlights flattery as a weapon used to weaken a target of an immoral trap. Flattery is pleasant to the ear. Everyone likes to hear good things being said about themselves. That is why it is such a deadly weapon in the art of seduction, as seduction capitalizes on sight and hearing, by enticing the eyes to want to see more and tingling the ears with endearments to the point of weakness.

Those who are masters in the art of seduction are often eloquent communicators, saying good and endearing things one might not be accustomed to hearing about oneself until the person is disarmed to the point of doing their bidding. Also, seducers or seductresses are also good at showing off what they have in physical allure to disarm the not-so-wise into doing their bidding.

While this may be a popular practice in society, the passage for our reference today also sheds more light on the danger of caving in and joining the bandwagon. Here is what the Bible says about the implications for the person who succumbs to the flattery and seduction of an immoral woman:

For her house leads down to death, and her paths to the dead; none who go to her return, nor do they regain the paths of life. – Proverbs 2:10,16-19

This does not sound like a place anyone would like to be. Therefore, to avoid heading to the house of death, walking on the path of death, following the road of no return or getting sidetracked in the journey of life or destiny without being able to regain lost steam, spent energy, wasted resources, exhausted virtues, lost yards, and other forms of traction, one needs to steer away from flattery and seduction. Wisdom is the best guard that can help anyone do that effectively.
