Organization
Next to Eliashib the men of Jericho built. And next to them Zaccur the son of Imri built. Also the sons of Hassenaah built the Fish Gate; they laid its beams and hung its doors with its bolts and bars. And next to them Meremoth the son of Urijah, the son of Koz, made repairs. Next to them Meshullam the son of Berechiah, the son of Meshezabel, made repairs. Next to them Zadok the son of Baana made repairs. – Nehemiah 3:2-4
Organization is another lesson we can glean from Nehemiah’s style of leadership. Apart from being clear on what needed to be done and what was required to do it, the methodical way he approached the work was another reason it must have been a success, one that has attracted thousands of studies afterwards.
From the passage above, we can see that after the high priest and his lieutenants laid the stone and started the work, other men and families followed suit in a sequential order. There was no account of a breakdown of order in the rebuilding process or bickering among the people who did the work. From scriptural reference, the rebuild progressed smoothly and must have been completed in record time.
Organization is an essential factor both in leadership and operations, as it not just fosters productivity and efficiency, but also prevents a breakdown of order and disruption of resources. Nehemiah was well acquainted with this wisdom, which must have informed the brief he handed down to the people as to how they would do the work, who would go first, doing what, and who would go next, until everyone has put in a fair shift.
Organization is a fundamental you must incorporate in your leadership endeavors in order to succeed, and Nehemiah gave us a blueprint on how to go about this.
You Will Succeed in Jesus Name!
