The Key to Personal Freedom

Then Jesus said…“And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.”

John 8:31-32

The Genevan philosopher, Jean-Jacques Rousseau, once wrote, ‘Man is born free, and everywhere he is in chains.’

When we were born, we all came to earth with no worries. Even as toddlers, we had very little care outside our toys. But, as we grew older and began to have a sense of identity, we started building barriers in our minds and defining our capacity based on what we experienced, saw, heard, learnt or read. Some people are more fortunate in terms of life exposures, which helped them to develop a healthy sense of being; some are not as lucky and were mostly exposed to the demoralizing sides of life, which set limits on their worldview.

There is also a tendency for man to want to control others by forceful or subtle means as a way of self-actualization. Some of the means of control used are denial, deception, or dogma – an opinion of man portrayed as the truth of God.

Irrespective of which describes your situation, it may interest you to know that God did not create us with any chain or limit. He created us in His own very image and likeness; now that should count for something. If you are experiencing limitations in any area of life, it means you either don’t know or have not imbibed the will of God concerning that matter. He wants us to conduct our lives and go about our life pursuits by His own instructions, which are accessible in the Bible.

And regardless of your challenge – finance, childbirth, marriage, etc – there are instructions in the Bible to help you approach these matters the God’s way. It is your responsibility to seek this truth and abide by it, so you can be free.

Life can be as easy or as difficult as you make it. How much of the truth of life you imbibe is proportional to the freedom you experience in life. Knowledge breeds confidence, so any area of life you feel inadequate is the area you do not have the truth. Remember, the truth is in your Bible. Read it every day.

You will succeed in Jesus’ Name!
