The Myth of Omnipresence (2): The 5 Places God Always Is
For the eyes of the Lord run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to show Himself strong on behalf of those whose heart is loyal to Him. – 2 Chronicles 16:9
This is the second part of our series on the myth of omnipresence. The second place God always is, is wherever He wants to be.
While He is not really everywhere at the same time, as the theory of omnipresence posits, He can be wherever He wants to be at any given time, without restrictions. And that ‘wherever’ is not limited to a singular place alone. He can be in multiple places at the same time, too.
We had earlier established that God’s coverage and dominion far exceed the Earth. We also highlighted how the Earth is significantly small, making up only about 0.00000000013% of the size of its own mother galaxy, the Milky Way. The Milky Way itself is just one out of two billion to trillions of other galaxies that make up the universe. God created them all.
Therefore, while God is seated on His throne in majesty and splendor, He has eyes everywhere, literally and metaphorically. With regards to the Earth, the Bible says, “the eyes of the Lord run to and fro throughout the whole earth” (2 Chronicles 16:9). As His eyes scan the entirety of the earth therefore, He can be wherever He wants to be at any given time based on what He sees that needs attention.
To put that further into perspective, it will not be Him personally attending to those things; it will be His angels coming as His representatives. God remains on His throne and does not jump all around to attend to needs like an efficient waiter. There are innumerable angels stationed everywhere to alert Heaven should there be any development requiring attention. They are His eyes scanning everywhere, His hands offering help, and His presence ministering to needs as required.
There are also instances where God Himself visits the Earth, as seen in His initial encounters in the Garden of Eden, at other places in Genesis, and particularly with Moses during the Exodus. But those are far and between throughout the Bible. Most other encounters with God we read about in the scripture are with His angelic representatives, not He Himself. However, wherever He is needed at any given time or where He ought to be, you can rest assured that He will be there. That is comforting to know.
