Purpose: Sent to Erase Sins
The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him, and said, “Behold! The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!”
– John 1:29
Sin is often described as missing the mark or falling short of divine standard in attitude, actions, thinking, speech, or conducts. It is also a direct offshoot of disobedience. In fact, every form of disobedience – no matter how minor – is a sin.
From the passage above, Jesus also came to take away the sins of the world. There is no greater hindrance factor than sin; sin inhibits access, stalls progress, blocks paths, deflates enthusiasm, truncates hope, prevents breakthrough, provokes ill will, limits capacity, aborts dreams, suppresses potentials, renders efforts fruitless, restrains the hand of God, puts up a wall of resistance, and does many more harm to the sinner.
The experience of sin might seem pleasurable or convenient at the time of indulgence, but its consequences are never palatable, and there are always consequences. No man or woman living in sin can hope to manifest his/her full potential on earth or gain access to heaven. Sin does more harm than good to the person, with its effects wreaking havoc on earth and blocking one’s access to heaven.
However, the good news is that Jesus came to earth to take away the sins of the world. He came to offer Himself as the symbolic sacrificial lamb for the propitiation of sin. He came to assume the weights of our sins so that we can bear them no more. He came to de-risk us by taking upon Himself the liabilities of sin that would have held us back. He is the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world.
This is one of the few purposes that Jesus does not share with many. There can only be one Jesus; there can only be one Lamb of God, and the propitiation for sin has been done once-for-all. God requires no other thing from us than to accept Jesus and all He came to do for humanity and to affirm such in our daily living. That is the only way to key into His fullness and enjoy all the benefits attached.
You will succeed in Jesus’ Name!
